There are many records in Elizabeth Firth’s diary of visits paid by her to the Brontës, and of their visits, or visits by the children, to Kipping House. Scruton (pp. 75ff) records PB’s ‘occasional outbursts of temper’ and describes a typical Sunday service of the day.
